Trex vs Spinosaurus, who would win?

Spinosaurus VS Tyrannosaurus.jpg

It was a surprise to many fans when the Iconic T-rex was so easily defeated in the movie Jurassic Park III, by the Spinosaurus. Spinosaurus was the biggest and baddest dinosaur yet, a worse villain even than Tyrannosaurus rex. Spinosaurus was a bit longer than T. rex, though it was more lightly built. But Spinosaurus lived 10-30 million years before T. rex tromped the Earth.

At first glance, we would probably estimate that the larger animal would most likely win in a battle. But that's not always the case. So let's find out who would really win by taking a look at the facts and what we know for now about these two fierce predators.

The Tyrannosaurus and Spinosaurus lived in very different time periods. They would never have crossed paths in real life. But let us say this was to take place, then the fight would not have necessarily gone down as easily as shown in the movies.

Advantages

We know that Spinosaurus was exceptionally large, almost two times more than the Tyrannosaurus. But the T-rex had a special power too. The T-rex had the strongest bite force of any animal. So, one blow could kill the Spinosaurus. But the Spinosaurus had size and its large clawed hands at his side. The Spinosaurus arms were much larger than the Tyrannosaurs and would present a great advantage in a one-to-one fight.

So, let us take a closer look at the Advantages presented to each of these animals: -

Tyrannosaurus
- Rows of Jagged Teeth
- Large Muscular Body
- High Intelligence
- Shattering Bite Force
- Great Vision
- Long Powerful Tail
- Hard Strong Legs
- Specialized for terrestrial life
- Fast
- Agile

Spinosaurus
- Long Snout with Conical Teeth
- Streamlined Muscular Body
- Sharp 54cm (about half the length of a baseball bat) long Claws
- Great Vision
- High Intelligence
- Long Strong Arms
- Large Size
- Powerful Tail

Those are some of the advantages present for each of our contestants. Let us look at the Disadvantages they both face: -

Disadvantages

Although both having many Advantages for the fight, they also have a lot of Disadvantages when it comes to facing off with each other. This sort of confrontation would be a serious challenge for both as they both seem to be equipped with the right tools to defeat each other.

Let's take a look

Tyrannosaurus
- Short Arms
- Smaller Body Size
- No Sail
- Less Adapted for Aquatic Environments

Spinosaurus
- Lesser Intelligence
- Smaller Tail
- Lesser Adapted to Terrestrial Environments
- Smaller Bite Force
- Less Agile
- Slower Speed

Tyrannosaurus has the arm over Spinosaurus with Advantages vs Disadvantages. We now know that Tyrannosaurus was as smart as a Chimpanzee even though the Brain to Body size ratio is quite small.

Strengths and Weaknesses

The Advantages to Disadvantages ratio is lower for the Spinosaurus. The Tyrannosaurus has a higher arm. But we have not discussed it all yet. Let's see the Strengths and Weaknesses of a Spinosaurus vs Tyrannosaurus in the scenario of a confrontation.

The Tyrannosaurus had a Bone-Shattering Bite Force estimated at 57,000 newtons, which is 4 times stronger than a Saltwater Crocodile. Which is 2 times more than the Spinosaurus. The Spinosaurus Bite force is closer to a Saltwater Crocodile because they were more likely to feed on fish that are less suited to survive a bite big or small. Tyrannosaurus was also about 2 times smarter than a Spinosaurus but the Spinosaurus was still one of the smartest reptiles to ever exist. The Tyrannosaurus had a long muscular tail to whip its opponent and to remain balanced while running and walking. The Tyrannosaurus is smaller and had shorter limbs than the Spinosaurus.

But the Spinosaurus had Size and Appendages at its side. The Spinosaurus had two long strong arms used to fish in rivers like how their cousins Baryonyx did. The Spinosaurus had a strong tail but short rare legs due to their more suitability to survive in an Aquatic Environment. The Spinosaurus has a disadvantage at bite force and speed. But the Spinosaurus was fierce and was not backing down.

Ready, Steady, FIGHT!

So, if they were really going to fight, this is when we will decide. They both have advantages and disadvantages over each other and they both have a 50/50% chance of winning. But if we consider all the facts and must decide, the answer is, none of them. There is a more likely chance of both dying before the fight because of their suvieer injuries caused by the other.

But if we must choose a winner, there is a 49% Chance for the Spinosaurus and a 51% Chance that Tyrannosaurus would win over the Spinosaurus in a one-to-one fight. But this is still unlikely because as recent studies show, Tyrannosaurus had hunted and lived in social groups known as "Packs" so a single Tyrannosaur going against a Spinosaurus is unlikely. And we also know a Spinosaurus did not live solitarily either, they lived in social pods in the same territory together feeding with each other. So, both animals have a high chance against each other.

How accurate was Jurassic World III?

So now you know, what you saw in Jurassic Park III, was not correct. There is no way this fight would go down in just 30 seconds, it would take place for about 30-40 minutes before one of them either submits or dies.

But we cannot entirely blame the Jurassic Park III movie since it explains why this went down the way it did. As they explain, the Spinosaurus was 2 years, and the "Buck T-rex" we see is way too small to be a full-grown adult. They explain that The Tyrannosaur we see, is true, a juvenile.

But even after this, we still cannot be sure of who had come out as the winner without studying them in real life. So, tell us, who do you think would turn out to be the winner? Are you on team #Spino or #Rexy Tell us!
